Sitting inside the warm bakery, surrounded by gingerbread and fruitcake, watching Frost Fair visitors strolling through the softly lit square is, in Mel's words, "like being in your own Hallmark movie." More than one friendship in Bitter Root has begun over a steaming mug poured from that kettle.
