There was always a particular hush that arrived with one of Bitter Root's rare snows. As porch steps disappeared beneath white, the kitchen windows fogged with supper, and somewhere inside the house somebody was probably making something that smelled like cinnamon. You didn't need much. A warm kitchen, a good apron, and somebody you loved nearby were enough.
