Kaffee Klatsch Apron

$15.00

Some aprons have a story before you ever put them on.

There are fabrics that are simply old, and then there are fabrics that have lived a little.

Kaffee Klatch is made from a genuine vintage textile—a wonderfully busy, happy piece of kitchen fabric filled with fruit, flowers, little clocks, pottery, and bits of mid-century folk-art charm. The mustard-and-cream stripes give everything room to breathe, while the red trim ties the whole lively affair together. It has the look of a kitchen where somebody was always stirring something, putting something up, or expecting company.

And then there's the little surprise in the pocket.

Sewn onto the front pocket is a circa-1960s Girl Scout Tea Badge. We don't know who earned it, or where it spent the years before finding its way here. We only know that it is old, genuine, and awfully sweet—and now it has become part of this apron’s story.

That's the thing about an heirloom. You don't always know all of its history.

Sometimes you just get to add to it.

Kaffee Klatch is a cross-back apron made for the woman who intends to stay in the kitchen awhile. It has comfortable wide shoulder straps, generous coverage, and one good-sized front pocket—the sort of pocket that is always handy for a recipe card, a measuring spoon, or whatever else you find yourself carrying around while supper is underway.

And with a fabric this cheerful, there's really no reason to wait for company.

Put it on for cookies. Put it on for coffee. Put it on when somebody says, “Come on over. I've got something on the stove.”

Some things are worth wearing. This one is worth remembering. Kaffee Klatch isn't pretending to be an old apron. It's made from something that already had a life—and now it's ready for another one. ❤️

From the Mercantile

Stanley Patrick always believed a good store ought to have a little something for everybody—and that the best things were often the ones with a story attached.

I think he would have liked Kaffee Klatch.

After all, you can't very well see a Girl Scout Tea Badge tucked into a vintage apron pocket and not wonder where it has been.

And wondering is half the fun.
