Handcrafted Aprons from the Mercantile, Mercantile Almanac
Pendleton Myra Apron
$15.00
For October days when the kitchen gets a little bit wild.
There are some combinations that simply know how to belong together. Pendleton-inspired geometric woolen-country color meets the untamed beauty of cowhide, and suddenly October feels less like a month on the calendar and more like a place you could step into. The Pendleton Myra Apron was made for that place.
The inspiration begins with the classic White Sands pattern, used across the upper portion of the apron in a beautiful arrangement of cream, brown, blue, red, olive, and golden yellow. Below it, a washable faux cowhide fabric brings the pattern down to earth—literally. The result is a little Western, a little Southwestern, and completely Kitchen Mechanic.
The name Myra comes from the distinctive combinations found in Myra handbags, where patterned textiles and animal-print materials are brought together to create something unexpected and wonderfully individual. We borrowed that spirit for an apron.
The apron itself is cut in our familiar full-coverage Kitchen Mechanic silhouette, with a comfortable straight waist, generous lower coverage, curved side openings, and sturdy dark brown binding throughout. A coordinating White Sands pocket sits prominently against the faux cowhide, making the pocket both useful and part of the design. The crossbody strap construction keeps everything comfortably in place without a neck loop or waist ties.
It is an apron for stirring a pot of chili, rolling out biscuits, gathering apples, making supper for a crowd—or simply looking like you know exactly where the good cast-iron skillet is kept.
From the Mercantile
Gert Patrick always said October was when the Mercantile got interesting. She liked the first cool morning when somebody came through the door wearing a denim jacket, the smell of apples and woodsmoke drifting in from somewhere down the road, and the particular sound of boots on the old wooden floor.
One October, Beechie came into the Mercantile carrying a handbag made from two fabrics that, by all sensible accounts, had no business being together.
She set it on the counter. “See?” she said, triumphantly.
Gert looked at the handbag, puzzled. “What am I supposed to see?”
“That things don't have to match to belong together.”
I always think of Beechie whenever the Pendleton Myra Apron comes through the workroom. Some things just land at the same time.
