Lolita’s Place

She was a woman of mystery...

My family loves Myrtle Beach. When I was young, it seemed like we drove for days before seeing the great beast of the ocean peeking between the hotels and shops. We always camped, which I didn’t like (it was way too dirty and buggy for me), and for many seasons we camped at the long-gone Lake Arrowhead campground.

I found it fascinating, because the store was called the ‘Trading Post’, and it was filled with souvenirs like Indian headdresses, bows and arrows, and tomahawks. It sort of bothered me that they were pitiful imitations of ‘the real thing’, but I still loved wandering through this exotic store, planning on what swag I would take home with me on that trip. I still love souvenirs; I always have to take a few home with me from wherever I go.
